Dow & Monsanto In War For GMO Corn

2-4-D corn ~ MORE chemicals in our lives

WE HAVE 19 DAYS LEFT  to submit public comments to the USDA on the approval of Dow’s 2-4-D  corn.

From the USDA site:

Summary

“We are advising the public that the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has received a petition from Dow AgroScience LLC seeking a determination of nonregulated status of corn designated as DAS-40278-9, which has been genetically engineered for increased resistance to broadleaf herbicides in the phenoxy auxin group (such as the herbicide 2,4-D) and resistance to grass herbicides in the aryloxyphenoxypropionate acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase inhibitor group (such as quizalofop herbicides). The petition has been submitted in accordance with our regulations concerning the introduction of certain genetically engineered organisms and products. We are soliciting comments on whether this genetically engineered corn is likely to pose a plant pest risk. We are making available for public comment the Dow AgroScience LLC petition, our plant pest risk assessment, and our draft environmental assessment for the proposed determination of nonregulated status.”

Why is this a BAD IDEA?  <—-read more.

Big Ag LOVES this, especially for corn production of ETHANOL.  Corn is the largest crop in the United States.  Almost half of the corn produced goes into ethanol production.  40% of that goes for animal feed.  Very little of it actually goes for human food — but what does is more than likely GMO corn.  If this 2-4-D corn is approved, you’ll be eating 2-4-D in your corn flakes, the meat you eat and just about everything else.

Like corn “supposedly” produced for energy production, Syngenta’s “Enogen” is a GMO corn recently approved. You’ll note in reading the NY Times article that the FDA said the corn was safe to eat.  Syngenta, like Dow, Bayer and others, have wormed their way into the food system.

If approved, we will have Dow’s GMO 2-4-D corn adding millions of gallons of toxic herbicides to our water, air, soil and food.

Therefore — it is IMPERATIVE that as many of us as possible log on to the site above BEFORE 2/29 and voice our opinions AGAINST the APPROVAL of the latest GMO corn.
