Pesticide Use Linked To Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s & ALS

Pesticide use has been linked with increased rates of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS.

Pesticide use has been linked to increased rates of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS.

Pesticides are neurotoxins (neu·ro·tox·in: a poison that acts on the nervous system) which overstimulate brain cells, causing miscommunication between them and eventually, cell death. This is how pesticides kill insects: the creature’s brain and nervous system becomes so scrambled it shuts down and the insect dies.

Definitive links exist between pesticide use and the rise of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease as well as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – ALS – or known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Pesticides are classified as those used to control insects, weeds and fungi and are known as insecticides, herbicides or fumigants.

Organophosphates are commonly used on food, in household pesticide and insecticides as well as lawn and garden chemicals. Organophosphates  have been shown to contribute to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s and ALS.

You might know some of these pesticides by their brand names:  Sevin Dust, Malathion (used in mosquito control)  Round-Up (glyphosate) and Diazinon.

Elevated serum levels of pesticides in humans, along with a rise in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, point to a link in neurological damage in those consistently exposed.

Though most Alzheimer’s research has focused on genetic factors, scientists have found that only half the cases are linked to heredity.  The other half increasingly points to use of pesticides in past decades.  DDT, banned over 40 years ago, remains in the body and has been found in about 75-80% of the population.  In Alzheimer’s patients the levels of DDE, (DDT when broken down) were 4.18 times higher.

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurological disorder.  Nerve cells in the brain regulating dopamine – which controls movement – are damaged to the point where they cannot produce the chemical.  Less than 1% of Parkinson’s cases can be attributed to genetics and researchers are finding a solid link to exposure to pesticides.  Scientists in the UK in studies ranging from 1983-2005, found a substantial link to pesticide and herbicide exposure in Parkinson’s patients.

  • Research conducted in the U.S. found that those consistently exposed to low levels of pesticides and herbicides were twice likely to develop Parkinson’s.
  • A Harvard study found that long-term pesticide exposure, even at low levels, shows a 70% increase in the disease over those who had limited contact.
  • Gardeners who routinely use pesticides such as Sevin Dust,  are 50% more likely to develop Parkinson’s than those who grow organic gardens.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, affecting motor control and is always fatal.  Over time patients lose motor control and in later stages, may become totally paralyzed.

Pesticides cause oxidative stress which in turn can lead to an array of health issues:  Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS, cancer, chronic fatigue, heart and blood vessel disorders, atherosclerosis, heart failure, heart attack and inflammatory diseases.

With mounting evidence against pesticides, isn’t it time you think twice before using them?

There are no “safe” pesticides.

Aspartame’s Effects On The Body

Aspartame (A.K.A NutraSweet) is found in thousands of foods today.

Aspartame (A.K.A NutraSweet) is found in thousands of foods today.

Aspartame is in so many food products today, it’s almost impossible to avoid.    Try walking down the aisles in your local grocery store; you’ll be hard-pressed to find many products without it!

There are some people who suffer reactions to aspartame.

READ MORE: ASPARTAME = EQUAL, NUTRASWEET = POISON

Many aspartame reactions are often mistaken for diseases   People wonder why they cannot get relief when it would be as simple as omitting aspartame from their diet.

Common diseases that aspartame reactions can mimic are:

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), ALS, Alzheimer’s Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,  EMS, Epstein-Barr, Epilepsy,   Fibromyalgia, Grave’s Disease, Hypothyroidism, non-Hodgkins Lymphoma,  Lupus, Lyme Disease, Meniere’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Post-Polio Syndrome

Aspartame can also cause symptoms such as itching without a rash, hives, tingling in mouth or face, ringing in the ears.

Neurological manifestations of aspartame can be: Epileptic seizures, headaches, migraines, dizziness, unsteadiness, confusion, memory loss, severe drowsiness and sleepiness, numbness of the limbs, severe slurring of speech, hyperactivity and restless legs, atypical facial pain or tremors.

Aspartame is even found in supposed "healthy" foods like yogurt.

Aspartame is even found in supposed “healthy” foods like yogurt.

Vision problems include:  blindness in one or both eyes, decreased vision and/or other eye problems such as: blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision, decreased night vision, pain in one or both eyes, decreased tears.

Aspartame can heighten depression, cause aggression, personality changes, irritability or exacerbate phobias.

Other reported symptoms include:  Chest palpitations, tachycardia, (rapid heart beat) shortness of breath, high blood pressure.

The makers of Aspartame swear the stuff is safe. It’s from a “natural” source, an amino acid they’ll tell you.   They’ll cite industry-funded studies which is the same as letting the fox into the chicken coop:  lies abound!

Since 1980, following an independent board of inquiry, aspartame was not found to be safe. Additional study on the effects of aspartame were requested to the FDA by  this board. However, with the election of Ronald Regan, a new FDA commissioner was  appointed and aspartame was approved.

What they don’t tell you is that aspartame, although an amino acid (aspartic acid) is an “excitotoxin” meaning that it stimulates cells (excite) to the extent that they die (apoptosis), destroying neurons. In the brain this is not a good thing. Phenyalanine, although found in proteins and as a component of aspartame, when isolated, it becomes neurotoxic, interferes with anti-depressants and other drugs.

Diabetics and the diet-conscious world have been hoodwinked into believing that aspartame is safe. I’ve been verbally attacked for speaking out against NutraSweet and aspartame.  Too bad!  I’ll continue to spread all the information I can regarding aspartame in the hope that there’s one person out there who will think twice about using this poison!

If You Use Pesticides, READ THIS!

wrningAmericans apply approximately 75 MILLION POUNDS of lawn care products annually; pesticides and insecticides used on your lawn  around your home.  They include ROUND-UP, Scott’s Weed and Feed, Sevin Dust, Bug B Gon, Triazicide, Spectricide, Ortho, Bayer products, Azatrine (2-4-D) which is a component in Agent Orange, Scott’s Winterizer and many others.  They are POISON and studies have proven the following:

  • There is NO safe ‘chemical’ pesticide or herbicide
  • Are known carcinogens (cause cancer)
  • Are hormone and endocrine system disruptors.
  • All are neurotoxins –  meaning toxic to the brain, causing brain cell death and affecting brain function.
  • Recent studies show pesticides to be a direct cause of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s, ALS and other neurological disorders & shrinkage of the brain.
  • Can be passed from pregnant mother to fetus causing birth defects or abortion
  • Cause allergic reactions
  • Children are especially susceptible to neurological damage, increased rates of cancer, ADD, asthma, development of allergies from exposure to lawn chemicals and pesticides.
  • If you have a well and use lawn chemicals you are poisoning your own water.
  • Pesticides and chemicals applied by lawn services have heavier application rates than for agriculture!
  • Golf courses use millions of pounds of herbicides & pesticides and with heavy watering, contribute to groundwater contamination.
  • Electric companies, railroads and municipalities also contribute to environmental & groundwater pollution with herbicide spraying of right-of-ways, parks, rail and roadsides.  Corporations also use these chemicals around their buildings to keep their lawns weed free. The list is endless!
  • Will make your pets ill, predisposing them to cancer and a host of other diseases.
  • Runoff from suburban lawns does not dissipate.  Instead it persists in the environment for decades.
  • Catch basins in urban areas and ponds, streams and lakes in rural areas – and finally, the ocean, are all polluted by pesticides and lawn care chemicals.
  • Each time you use lawn care products or pesticides you WILL kill beneficial insects such as earthworms, bees, butterflies, praying mantises as well as birds, frogs and other mammals.  This will be from either direct contact (bees and insects) or indirect (birds or other wildlife) or from water runoff.  Birds will eat chemicals that are in pelletized form thinking it’s food.
  • Honeybee colony collapse is directly related to the use of pesticides over the past 50 years.
  • Insects have developed a resistance to these chemicals as have weeds.  Manufacturers have to develop stronger chemicals or mix them with older ones which haven’t been in use recently.
  • Pesticides and insecticides don’t just ‘go away’.  Some stay in the soil for long periods of time – years!
  • Children, because of their developing brains, muscles, bones – have a tenfold exposure over adults.
  • Women pregnant from May to September have highest risks of birth defects for their unborn child if they are exposed to pesticides and lawn care products.
  • Pesticide drift from wind and rains can bring chemicals on your property and into your home.
  • Of the 30 most commonly used pesticides
    • 19 are linked with cancer
    • 13 linked with birth defects
    • 21 with reproductive effects
    • 26 with liver or kidney damage
    • 15 neurotoxicity
    • 11 with endocrine (hormone) disruption
    • 17 are found in groundwater
    • 23 have the ability TO leach into groundwater
    • 11 are toxic to bees
    • 16 are toxic to birds

You have to ask yourself:

  • Is it WORTH IT to have the ideal ‘golf course’ lawn, an insect-free yard or perfect vegetables – to put my family and pets and even my neighbors at risk for a premature death from cancer,  increased chances of neurological, reproductive disorders or organ failure or allergies years from now?  Is it WORTH IT to expose my family, even those not yet born, to an uncertain fate from exposure to chemicals which is not even necessary?

My answer to that would be NO!  What would yours be?
